The Great War as seen by the sea
Traces of the Great War in Friuli-Venezia Giulia are not just found on land, but also at sea. Consequently, the latest trails dedicated to the First World War also involve the Marano and Grado lagoons, which used to be on the border during this period between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The proposed trails follow historic sites by boat, which were once strategically important during the First World War. Visitors will be able to learn about various aspects of military strategies, from the organisation of supplies to methods of connecting waterways from two important points, Isonzo and Piave. All the trails come with historical information on wartime events and can be adapted for any type of visit, from school trips to tourists staying in the coastal cities of Grado and Lignano.                                           ... Jacopo Linussio: an old jeans store in Carnia?
The exhibition "Jacopo Linussio & jeans: fashion accessibile” (Jacopo Linussio & jeans: accessible fashion) is entirely dedicated to jeans, which has just opened in Tolmezzo, in the province of Udine. The exhibit is a tribute to Jacopo Linussio, the famous entrepreneur who set up three important textile mills in Carnia in the mid-eighteenth century. His achievements were extraordinary for the age, not just in terms of the number of people employed, which exceeded 30,000, but also for his innovative skills in production and work organisation. This exhibition highlights several aspects of textile production which are very similar to what we know today as “jeans” and it also offers many other curiosities connected to this garment. The exhibition has been set up in the central Frisacco Palace and will remain open until 27th April.         ... (more)
